Your Privacy, Simply Explained
We believe privacy policies should be easy to understand, not written by lawyers for lawyers. Here's what happens with your data in plain English.
Last updated: January 2025
The Quick Version (TL;DR)
- 1.Your expense data stays on your phone by default
- 2.We use voice processing to understand what you say - this requires internet, but we don't train AI on your data
- 3.Cloud sync is optional - turn it on only if you want to use multiple devices
- 4.We never sell your data. Period.
Where Your Data Lives
The short answer: On your phone, nowhere else (unless you choose otherwise).
When Cloud Sync is OFF (Default)
All your expenses, categories, accounts, and settings are stored only on your device. We can't see it. Hackers can't steal it from our servers. It's yours and yours alone.
Think of it like writing in a personal diary that nobody else can read.
When Cloud Sync is ON
You might want to turn on Cloud Sync if you:
- • Use eqva money on multiple devices (phone + tablet)
- • Want a backup in case you lose your phone
- • Share expense tracking with family members
When Cloud Sync is on, your data is encrypted before leaving your device. This means even if someone somehow got into our servers, they'd just see scrambled nonsense - not your actual expenses.
Think of it like putting your diary in a locked safe before sending it to a secure storage facility.
How Voice Recording Works
The magic behind the mic: When you say "I spent 50 dollars on lunch", here's exactly what happens:
Your voice is recorded on your device
The recording stays temporary and is deleted after processing.
We send it to Groq for transcription
Groq is our AI partner that converts your speech to text. This requires an internet connection.
The text comes back, and we extract the expense details
Amount, category, description - all figured out automatically.
Your voice recording is deleted
We don't keep audio files. Only the extracted expense data stays on your device.
Important: Your Voice Isn't Used for AI Training
According to Groq's privacy policy, they don't use your audio or transcriptions to train their AI models. Your data is processed, not learned from.
Sign in with Google
Why we offer Google Sign-In: It's convenient and secure - no need to remember another password.
When you sign in with Google, we receive:
- • Your name (to personalize your experience)
- • Your email (to identify your account)
- • Your profile picture (optional, for the app)
That's it. We don't have access to your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, or anything else in your Google account.
For more details, see Google's Privacy Policy
Analytics (How We Improve the App)
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use eqva money so we can make it better.
This tells us things like:
- • Which features are popular
- • Where people get stuck or confused
- • What devices and screen sizes to optimize for
- • General geographic regions (not your exact location)
What Analytics Can't See
- ❌ Your actual expenses or amounts
- ❌ Your account names or balances
- ❌ Your personal conversations or voice recordings
- ❌ Anything that could identify you personally
